The Full Story
How I got Started
I had to do a volunteer project for my 6th grade class. I wanted to use the skills that I had to help kids in need. I am good at sewing and I know how much my stuffed animals have helped me to feel better. So, I started sewing stuffed animals for kids going through a hard time.
My stuffed animals are unique because I make sure to think about what makes a stuffy special. I try and make them as cute as possible. Hand sewing and embroidering them lets me personalize each stuffed animal so that kids know that they are getting something really special. I make each stuffed animal "real" by giving the stuffy a name and some activities that the stuffy likes to do. I think it can help a kid immediately connect to the stuffy, especially in a stressful time. I also think it helps kids know that not just adults care about what they are going through. Kids are thinking about them too.
I've gotten so much community support that I am now sewing pillows and blankets. With the help of my parents, I founded FurGood Stuffies, a non-profit, in 2026.

Why Stuffed Animals?
Stuffed animals help children cope with anxiety, fear, and loneliness. When a child hugs a stuffed animal, he or she often feels a sense of calm. This is especially important during times of stress. Stuffed animals serve as a safe outlet for a child's emotions. This means that when a child talks to a stuffed animal, or play acts with a stuffed animal, he/she is better able to process challenging feelings or situations. When the world around a child feels a little crazy, scary, or sad, a stuffed animal makes a child feel safe and loved.
Why Pillows and Blankets?
Pillows and blankets can help children and adults cope with transitioning into a new home or environment. This can be anything from a senior living facility, a hospital, or a new/temporary home. Having something that is unique to a person (like a soft blanket or throw pillow) can help personalize a new and unfamiliar space. This helps a person feel more safe, calm, and in control of her/his surroundings. It seems simple but these things can make all the difference to someone in a stressful situation.
The softness of pillows and blankets can also help a person feel more secure. Soft textures can also help with sensory issues.
